Tangyuan are round balls made of glutinous rice flour. They are traditionally eaten during the eve of the Lunar New Year ( Tuanyuan Fan -2/10/24), Lantern Festival, which is called Yuan Xiao Jie ( Lantern Festival- 2/25/24). In addition, because Tangyuan is a homophone for reunion (Tuanyuan), Tangyuan are also served at weddings, at family reunions, and during the winter solstice festival. They are usually served with a sweet broth to represent the sweetness in life.
We will be making Tangyuan in the shape of mini oranges, to represent sweetness and luck for the family! Our dough recipes are formulated to prevent cracking while shaping the Tangyuan.

What you will learn :
- how to prepare the glutinous rice dough that is suitable for character designs.
- how to color the dough
- how to divide the dough into the right sized portions
- how to boil the Character Tangyuan.
- we will learn to make 2 characters and an accessory.
Students may need time after class to complete the decorating and cooking with the remainder of their dough.
No special tools needed for this class.
What is Not Included in this class:
- all ingredients or baking tools. Please prepare these in advance.
Please note:
Children under 12 will need an adult supervision when boiling the Tangyuan.
