The lion dance is one of the most recognizable parts of the celebration of the Lunar New Year. The lion symbolizes strength and wisdom, and the lion dance is meant to bring prosperity and good fortune.
The sight of the dancing lions, whether in pairs or in an entire family, and the sound of the powerful drums, which ring out far and wide, are an integral part of the new year celebration.
I have so many fond memories of driving to meet family and friends during Chinese New Year. Everywhere I went, I could hear the rhythmic drums of the lion dance.
Now, I want to bring you the joy and prosperity of the lion as we welcome the Year of the Dragon with my lion. It is a sweet homage to my happy childhood New Year memories of seeing the lion dancers and snacking on pineapple cookie while visiting family and friends.
