Dim Sum Delights
In this playful, hands-on camp, children explore the joyful traditions of dim sum while learning a mix of cooking, sewing, craft, and food science. Campers will prepare two classic dim sum inspired treats, mini baos and simple egg tarts, while learning basic kitchen techniques such as mixing, shaping, filling, and assembling.
As part of the cooking experience, campers will also explore simple food science concepts such as how dough rises, how steaming works, and how ingredients change during cooking. They will also make a colorful Asian dessert, learning how liquids transform into gels and how temperature affects texture.
Beyond the kitchen, campers will create cute dim sum themed felt stuffies using different sewing techniques and work on fun craft projects. They will also design a special Father’s Day card inspired by the tradition of sharing dim sum with family.
Campers will also practice simple budgeting using play money as they “shop” for ingredients and craft materials at a small dim sum market. This activity helps them understand the value of money, make choices, and learn basic decision making.
