H.K Mahjong

At Baker’s Stand Studio, our Hong Kong Mahjong class combines clear, engaging theory with hands-on play. We guide you from your very first tile to confident, strategic play. Over four sessions, you’ll sit at a friendly table. Every lesson briefly introduces core concepts like tile anatomy. You will also learn meld formation and scoring patterns. These concepts are quickly put into practice. You’ll start by identifying Bamboo, Characters, and Dots. Then, you will move on to Winds and Dragons. Along the way, you will learn the rhythm of drawing and discarding. Polite table etiquette makes each hand both strategic and social.

Build on your mahjong foundation with our Intermediate course, where you’ll develop strategic play skills. Learn to identify and create high-value combinations including flowers, seasons, and coveted special hands like the “Heavenly Hand.” Develop your tactical awareness as you study opponent behavior. Learn to read discards more effectively. Protect your own hand from interference.

You’ll practice essential skills like tile tracking and defensive positioning. You’ll learn when to push for big scores versus playing it safe. Through focused practice rounds and realistic table simulations, you’ll build the mental agility to make quicker and more confident decisions.

This course provides the strategic foundation for intermediate play. Combined with regular practice sessions, you’ll develop improved instincts, solid tactical fundamentals, and a better eye for spotting opportunities.

Mahjong is more than just a game—it’s a proven workout for the mind and a bridge to new friendships. Our class alternates short theory segments with group play. This sharpens memory, pattern recognition, and decision-making. It also fosters conversation, patience, and camaraderie. Whether you’re seeking a stimulating mental challenge or a lively social activity, our blend of instruction and play delivers both.

The game follows the authentic 144-tile Chinese rules. It includes true East–South wind rotations and bonus flower and season tiles. You’ll also pick up essential Cantonese or Mandarin terms. For instance, “pèng””pong” (碰) is used for claiming triples, and “hú” (胡) is for winning. With these terms, you can call your melds with confidence and flair.

Join us at Baker’s Stand Studio. Experience how a thoughtful mix of theory and play transforms curiosity into real Mahjong skill. Reserve your spot today and let every lesson—and every hand—bring you closer to the heart of this timeless tradition.
